Driving towards Queensland

Leaving Darwin, we felt like we were almost back to the east coast - it was only when we hit the road that we realised it's a very long way from Katherine to the QLD border! We had a great stop at Mataranka, and really enjoyed the springs (Bitter Springs were by far the best. Lovely clear deep warm water creeks meandering through the forest).

The journey from there was long and at times tedious as we drove over 1000km over the next couple of days. We stopped at Banka Banka station for a night and enjoyed marshmallows roasted on the bonfire, and then made it to Camooweal just over the QLD border for the next night (not much to say about Camooweal!).

It's easy to say in hindsight, but we survived these long drives really well. Pia did plenty of sleeping, while the older girls watched videos, did homework, and built cubbies.

  1. Bitter Springs looks beautiful. Kids impressed to hear that the girls are doing school work! The picture of Pia underwater is certainly a keeper. Safe travels, the McBrides
