Corroboree Billabong with grandparents

Everyone was really looking forward to getting to Corroboree Billabong, 100km south of Darwin, to see Papa John (Lisa's dad) and Nana Ruth. We spent 4 nights there, and had a great time staying at the caravan park where they live during the tourist season. It was also great going out to the billabong itself to see their houseboat business in action. We were particularly lucky that Papa John could spare some time to take us for a cruise along the billabong to see saltwater crocodiles, eagles and other beautiful wildlife in an untouched habitat.

While there, we also had another expedition - this time towards Darwin to Channel Island to of fishing on Crazy Mick's boat. Fortunately Mick wasn't too crazy after all and we survived. We were expecting to catch many mud crabs, but came home with none! And after hours of fishing we only caught one small shark. Nonetheless, it was a fun day.

Another great outing was to the Noonamah Rodeo. It was only about 60 km south of Darwin, but felt very outback. People had obviously come from everywhere to enjoy a night of bucking bulls and broncos, jumping motorbikes, and country music. There were hundreds of people there, nearly all of them done up in their jeans, boots and miller shirts despite the heat and humidity. We all loved the experience, and it turned out to be a fairly late night.

All this, combined with Nana Ruth's cooking, meant we had a wonderful time.
