Nearly everyone has seen pictures of Wave Rock, but it seems most people don't actually go there. It is probably because its about 300km from the usual tourist route along the coast. Despite this, we decided to make the journey and really enjoyed it. The camp ground is located right at the rock, which meant we were able to visit the rock at dusk and early the following morning. It really is impressively large, smooth, and wave-like. The colors are also really beautiful. Some photos are included below - you'll note that the girls couldn't resist having a "surf" on the wave!
We decided we'd head back to the coast, but left too late to make it all the way back to the coast. The drive back through wheat country was impressive, but there were really limited options for an overnight stay. While stopped on a quiet back road (and a bit lost) we were rescued by the world's friendliest farmer (Alan) who offered us a place to park for night at his place in Pingrup. It turned out to be so much more - his wife (Susan) cooked us all a beautiful meal, the kids fed the race horses and rode in the massive harvester, followed by scones and jam! Special mention should be made of Pia's favorite new friend, Murphy the dog (shown below in our camper). Country hospitality at its best! Not sure we can ever repay that favour, but we all loved every minute.
Photos below are: Wave Rock (photos 1-5), the girls with their friend Lili at Hippo's Mouth, Pia ready to bush walk, Alan helping the girls feed his race horses , the girls riding in Alan's ute, Pia delighted with Murphy visiting our camper, and the girls riding in Alan's harvester (look closely)
