The road to Broome

There were some interesting stops on the journey from Karijini to Broome, but no big-ticket highlights. As we headed north-west towards the coast, we stopped at Millstream National Park. The campground was a little rundown, but was by the River. It was just an overnight stop, but we spent the next morning fishing for catfish after being told they were actually good eating. Well, we caught a beauty (enough to feed the whole family) and it turned out to be great eating (let them swim in clean water before filleting them to get the mud out of their system!).

We finally hit the coast at Karratha, still several hundred kms from Broome. A night at Point Samson (holiday town for the miners) and then Cape Keraudren (nothing there but rocks and snakes) followed. The last stops before Broome were at Barn Hill Station (a cattle station on the coast) and 80 Mile Beach (80 miles of no swimming, because the water is bubbling with sharks).

By this stage, we were very excited to be driving into Broome, to stay in Lisa's dad's holiday apartment (thanks John). It had been a long time since we had enjoyed air conditioning, a swimming pool and a real roof over our heads.
